2023 Winner: Jiayi Lu, Cello
Jiayi will perform Dvorak’s Cello Concerto in B minor with the DSO on November 14 at Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church!
Jiayi Lu started cello at the age of 11, currently studying with Wendy Warner, a professor at Columbus State University, and Hu Bo, the principal cellist of the Beijing Symphony Orchestra. She has been a member of the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra and Emory Youth Symphony Orchestra. In the past, she has participated in the Boulder Cello Festival, the 2022 Cello Akademie Rutesheim in Germany, and the 2023 Verbier Festival Junior Orchestra. She has been a recipient of many awards including the winner of the Georgia Music Teacher Association in 2023; honorable mention of the 2023 LaGrange Young Artists Competition and the Emory Youth Symphony Orchestra Concerto competition; Laureate of the 2023 Samuel Fordis Competition; and winner of the Ruth Kern Young Artists Concerto Competition.
