2024 Winner: Eve Gordon, marimba
Eve Gordon picked up her first set of mallets at the age of 8 and never looked back. Now 16 years old and a sophomore at Westminster in Atlanta, Eve studies with noted soloist Victor Pons, a regular performer with top symphonies in Atlanta and the Southeast and a former member of the Georgia State University percussion faculty.
Eve is a member of both the Atlanta Youth Wind Symphony and the Emory Youth Symphony Orchestra. As a high schooler, Eve was Principal Percussionist of the Interlochen Philharmonic and a member of the Interlochen World Youth Symphony Orchestra in Interlochen, Michigan. In each of her three previous summers at Interlochen Arts Camp, she was Principal Percussionist of the middle school symphony. In addition to her extensive experience in symphonic and band music, Eve studies both drum set and vibraphone in jazz percussion and has performed as a pit orchestra musician for Westminster’s musical theater productions. She has been a member of the Georgia Youth Symphony Orchestra, the GYSO Percussion Ensemble, and the GYSO Jazz Ensemble.
Eve has studied with Keith Aleo, Director of Percussion at Interlochen Center for the Arts; Rob Knopper, Percussionist with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra; Ross Karre, Oberlin Conservatory percussion faculty; Judy Cole, Collaborative Piano faculty member emeritus at Kennesaw State University; John Lawless, Director of Percussion Studies at KSU; and Sam Skelton, Director of Jazz Studies at KSU.
